What is the story about?

Last week, I briefly talked about how the nonsensical trade rumors had started surrounding Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Today, as it turns out, the Vikings have decided to make a completely nonsensical trade.

Numerous sources are reporting that the Vikings are, in fact, trading McCarthy to the New York Giants. The return is, reportedly, a 2027 fifth-round draft choice.

So, the Vikings have decided to trade the highest-drafted quarterback in franchise history, a player they took with

the #10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, after just ten NFL starts. This also puts the Vikings in a situation where they have no quarterbacks under contract for the 2027 season. Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz are both here on one-year deals.

Honestly, after watching that performance from Murray on Sunday and knowing the injury histories that both Murray and Wentz have, it boggles the mind that you would rather be two snaps from having your season rest on the right arm of Max Brosmer than potentially having J.J. McCarthy back there instead.

I’m sure that there will be plenty more on this in the coming days, but that’s the big story as it stands right now. The Vikings are, in fact, trading J.J. McCarthy to the New York Football Giants for, essentially, nothing.
