The Michigan Wolverines have secured some flips on the recruiting trail lately, as a few players have announced commitments to the program despite previous pledges elsewhere. The Wolverines are hoping
to land more before this recruiting cycle is up. Let’s break down all the latest in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Kaden Catchings breaks down Michigan flip
2026 three-star linebacker Kaden Catchings was committed to USF before deciding to take his talents to Michigan. Catchings officially visited for the Purdue game, and that helped sway him to Ann Arbor.
“When I went out there, I had a great time,” Catchings told On3’s EJ Holland ($). “I came home and sat down with my parents. We finalized things and felt Michigan was the right place. I know Michigan is going to be a challenge, especially coming from Mississippi. It’s going to be really cold (laughs). But I love the way they develop their players. I also like that the freshmen have really stepped up.”
Catchings was very impressed by the atmosphere at the Big House, and the overall buzz around the campus was cool for him to experience as well.
“The stadium is huge,” he said. “There was a lot of people there. I’ve never been to a stadium like that. But what really stood out to me were the meetings with the coaches and how much they care about their guys. They are in tune with their lives. It was the weekend of Halloween, and it was cool seeing the frats do stuff around campus. I also love how strong the academics are.”
There is a certain type of player Michigan wants in the linebackers room, and it sounds like Catchings fits that mold.
“They see me like the linebacker they have (Jaishawn Barham) since he’s so versatile,” Catchings said. “Really, all their linebackers are versatile. They can blitz and cover. They see me as a guy that can do it all at linebacker.”
Catchings plans on enrolling early at Michigan.
Miami Ohio flip commit opens up on Michigan decision
Another player who Michigan recently flipped is 2026 three-star offensive lineman Tommy Fraumann, who was previously committed to Miami (Ohio). Fraumann’s dad played linebacker at Michigan and his mom was on the women’s basketball team, so this is pretty special for the Fraumann family.
“The fact that this dream of mine, playing at Michigan, is coming true is just unbelievable,” Fraumann told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had dreams of playing football there and going to the school.”
Offensive line coach Grant Newsome has put in a lot of effort recruiting Fraumann, and his overall body of work and character has stood out.
“I’d never known coach Newsome or anything like that, but the first time he called, [he was] very respectful, an amazing human being, an awesome guy,” Fraumann said. “He has built an unbelievable program at Michigan since he’s been there.”
It’s clear Fraumann is feeling very good about his decision to come to Michigan.
“It’s just an awesome place,” he said. “It’s such a brotherhood, and it’s going to be absolutely amazing.”
2027 DL says Michigan is ‘at the top of my list’
Michigan is getting busy with the 2027 recruiting class, and one player to keep an eye on is defensive lineman Dami Sowunmi. He was on campus for the Purdue game, and like most people who visit Michigan Stadium, he was wowed by the atmosphere.
“It was just fun,” Sowunmi told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “The environment was awesome. It was a great experience for me.”
The Wolverines have had one of the top defenses in college football throughout the past five years, and that is always something that recruits want to see.
“They were all flying to the ball, and that’s what caught my eye,” Sowunmi said. “Each of the d-linemen would always retrace if it was a screen pass or anything, and they would just all fly to the ball. That’s something that I’d look at me doing as a Michigan Wolverine.”
Sowunmi has a lot of options to weigh, but Michigan is in a good spot right now.
“I’m very interested,” he said. “They’re at the top of my list.”
