Bayern Munich recorded a strong 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, a team they had not beaten in their home stadium for the past two seasons. Needless to say, the team was happy and satisfied with the win,
not least of all captain Manuel Neuer.
“It was a confident away win. We did very well with and without the ball today, pressing, box defending, control of the ball. We also had good counters in the second half and managed to score the third goal from one of them. We feel the automatisms are getting better and every player knows their role,” he said (via @iMiaSanMia).
Indeed, although Frankfurt had a decent first half (apart from the two goals they conceded), Bayern never looked like they were in any remote danger. The second half was even better, with Frankfurt reduced to zero shots on target. Neuer himself did not have much to do all game other than a point blank save he made with his leg in the first half.
That said, Neuer and the team is not letting their success get to their heads. “But of course there are always things we can do better. It’s always about looking forward and preparing for the next game,” he added.
Indeed, the month of October will bring many more challenges. First, Bayern welcomes Borussia Dortmund to the Allianz Arena, and away trips to Mönchengladbach and Köln (league and Pokal, respectively) await after a home match against Club Brugge in the Champions League. November does not get any easier, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal awaiting. True to Neuer’s word, Bayern will need to keep their A-game up if they want to escape this grueling schedule with top marks.
Before that, though, the international break looms. Neuer will be resting for a few days while his teammates jet off across the globe for their national teams.
