Here are some important players to keep your eye on this week.
Gunner Stockton — QB, Georgia
Gunner Stockton is quietly having a really good season this year. Last week, Stockton was great against Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs’ quarterback finished with 295 passing yards, three touchdowns, and a 78.1% completion rate.
This week, he will be matched up against Alabama and Keelon Russell, and he will need to deliver a similar performance in order to beat the Tide in Tuscaloosa.
DeSean Bishop — RB, Tennessee
DeSean Bishop had a breakout game last week against Auburn. The Volunteers are having some quarterback issues, but the emergence of Bishop is keeping the offense steady.
Bishop ran all over the Tigers, finishing with 220 rushing yards on 34 carries and three touchdowns.
Can Bishop follow up that performance with another big game as the Volunteers prepare to take on Arkansas on Saturday afternoon?
Tennessee will need Bishop to deliver another strong performance as the Volunteers make a change at quarterback. George MacIntyre will be making the first start of his career.
Jeremiah Smith — WR, Ohio State
Jeremiah Smith was on this list last week, and he did not disappoint.
Against Iowa, Smith finished the game with 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns.
DeVonta Smith was the last true wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy back in 2020, and at this pace, Jeremiah Smith is making a strong case to become the next one.
He and the Buckeyes will face Maryland on Saturday, and this matchup could lead to another major performance.
Jamal Roberts — RB, Missouri
Jamal Roberts is filling in for Ahmad Hardy as Hardy recovers from a gunshot wound.
Roberts had a huge day on Saturday, helping push the Tigers past the Gators in a major upset victory.
Roberts finished the game with 211 rushing yards and three touchdowns, providing the perfect complement to a passing attack that had the Gators completely lost.
Now, Roberts and the Tigers will host Texas A&M on Saturday, and this could be a game in which Missouri buries A&M’s season in just the second week of October.
Keelon Russell — QB, Alabama
Finally, Keelon Russell.
Russell is a Heisman favorite right now, and every single week, this young man continues to get better and better.
Against Mississippi State, on the road in a very tough environment, Russell delivered.
He finished with 285 passing yards and four total touchdowns, leading Alabama to a 56-point performance against a very hot Mississippi State team.
If Russell can remain consistent and even elevate his play a little, he could be the deciding factor in leading the Tide to an upset victory against Georgia this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
This will be a major home matchup for Russell and the Tide.
