The line-up for CMLL’s upcoming Grand Prix de Amazonas was already different from when it was announced. Thankfully, none of the previous changes were for anything like the reason Shotzi Blackheart withdrew from the Oct. 23 tournament.
Blackheart has been through it over the past several years. During her time in WWE, her father and her stepfather died. Shotzi shaved her head in solidarity with her sister Stephanie’s cancer fight; Steph is thankfully still with us, but her prognosis remains scary.
And earlier this year, the wrestle web helped find her brother Dean, who’d gone missing and needed dialysis treatment.
Dean died recently, which Blackheart revealed while expressing her regrets about missing the women’s Grand Prix:
Late Sunday night, I lost my brother Dean. Being away from my family these last few days has been hard, but they’ve been so supportive and encouraged me to fulfill my commitments this week.
I will, however, need to withdraw from my CMLL tour next week to be with my family and honor my brother’s memory. It was a huge honor to be selected for the CMLL Grand Prix, and I don’t take that opportunity lightly. Thank you to everyone at CMLL and the fans for understanding how hard all this is for me.
Please join us in keeping a good thought for Shotzi Blackheart and her family.
