The Chicago Bears held practice today at Halas Hall, and running back Kyle Monangai left after injuring his knee. CHGO’s Adam Hoge shared a recap of what happened on social media.
“Tough moment in today’s practice as Bears RB Kyle Monangai suffered what appeared to be a right knee injury when Grady Jarrett tackled him from behind,” he wrote. “They were not wearing pads today, and Grady seemed to realize it mid-tackle, attempting to hold Monangai up at the end. He clearly felt bad. Trainer Andre Tucker
tested the knee on the field, and then they walked off together. No cart needed. But Monangai was walking very gingerly.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, yes, the same Insider who got the Coby Bryant scoop wrong, reported from a source that Monangai is believed to be “fine.”
Schefter added, “Initial tests showed his knee to be structurally sound, but the team will do an MRI to confirm.”
The Bears open the season against the Carolina Panthers in four weeks.
Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo was just activated off the PUP list earlier today, and there’s already video of him moving around at practice.
Left tackle Braxton Jones was back at practice today, as was defensive end Montez Sweat. Jones was back working with the ones at left tackle, but Theo Benedet got some reps there as well. (link)
The Bears also hosted 30-year-old defensive end Marcus Davenport for a tryout today. Davenport, a former first-round pick in 2018, started his career playing for Dennis Allen on the New Orleans Saints. He has 25 sacks in his eight-year career, and in the last two years, he played in 10 games (8 starts) for the Detroit Lions with 1.5 sacks.
