Barcelona continue to chase the dream signing of Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, but the Colchoneros remain confident the Argentina forward will not move to Camp Nou.
Álvarez will rejoin the Atlético squad on Monday to begin his preseason preparations after his post-World Cup vacation, and Barça will make a final attempt to sign Julián who is also expected to request a transfer in a private meeting with coach Diego Simeone and Atlético’s executives.
Simeone was asked about Álvarez in a press conference
this weekend and had a very calm and confident response.
“The situation is very clear. The club took a decision which [Atlético CEO] Miguel Ángel [Marín] explained well.
“We are very happy with Julián. From the sporting side of things, we will help him keep growing and improving so that he can give us what he has given us over these two years at the club so far, which was a mountain of things.”
Barça’s first offer of €100 million was rejected by Atlético and expired at the end of July, but the Catalans plan to make a new and improved bid, which they hope will convince Atlético along with Julián’s request.
The Blaugrana have reportedly already secured an alternative to Julián and are ready to close the deal if Atlético reject them again.
