Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has been at this game a long time.
Eberl has had quick, easy contract talks and long, drawn-out negotiations. For center-back Dayot Upamecano, the contact discussions have been of the long, drawn-out variety.
Eberl understands the game and how it all works, but he would still like to see things get resolved…quickly.
“We’ve been talking for a while and are making good progress on one or two points. When there’s something to announce, we’ll announce it. I
can only say what we want to say: that we’re in talks. We’re talking about important decisions the player has to make, decisions we want him to make in order to move our plans forward. We want to finalize it as quickly as possible. It’s a big contract for Upa and an important moment in his career. We’re pushing hard and then we’ll see how quickly we can get it done,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The recent reports have been mixed. Bayern Munich representatives continues to express confidence, while other news points to a signing bonus and release clause still being roadblocks.
Whatever the case, it appears the everyone is aware that this all becomes wide open in January when other clubs can gain direct access to Upamecano.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are rumored to have big interested in the Frenchman.
