Rutgers football can celebrate another recruiting win as defensive back Devonte Anderson, already a commit to the Scarlet Knights, has earned a spot on the Rivals300 list for the Class of 2026. Anderson comes in at No. 246 nationally, marking him as one of the elite defensive prospects in the country.
A Rising Defensive Back Talent
Hailing from West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida, Anderson has long been recognized for his size, speed, and playmaking ability in the secondary. At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, he combines
length, athleticism, and instincts, making him a versatile cornerback capable of challenging top receivers.
During his high school career, Anderson impressed with 40+ tackles, multiple interceptions, and 17 pass breakups in his senior season alone, demonstrating an ability to impact games in coverage and in run support. Rivals’ ranking reflects his performance against high-level competition and his projected potential at the next level.
Boost for Rutgers’ Recruiting Class
Anderson’s inclusion in the Rivals300 is a validation of Rutgers’ recruiting efforts. The Scarlet Knights successfully flipped him from his previous commitment to Louisville, adding a player who can contribute early in the secondary. His ranking also positions Rutgers’ 2026 class as one of the stronger ones in the region, showing the program’s growing ability to attract nationally recognized talent.
With Anderson joining the Scarlet Knights’ defensive backfield, Rutgers gains a player who can help solidify its secondary for years to come. The recognition from Rivals is not just a personal achievement for Anderson but also a signal of Rutgers’ increasing competitiveness in recruiting top-tier defensive talent.
