Nicolas Jackson moved permanently to Aston Villa yesterday, completing the transfer that had been expected for much of the past two months. The financial package we’ve received in compensation is reportedly worth £65m £65, though only about three-quarters of that (£47.5m) is being paid up front. The rest are tied to various bonuses and add-ons, which may or may not be hit depending on how well Jackson does.
How well Jackson’s doing has been a big question around Stamford Bridge ever since he arrived
three years ago. And though he scored 30 goals in all competitions during his first two seasons, he never quite managed to convince either the fans or the coaches that he is the one to lead our front line. He did seem to have a propensity for wasting chances and for silly bookings (and not just for yellows), though how far of an outlier he might have been in that regard is up for debate. He was a bit of chaos agent, in all the good and most of the bad ways.
Last season he got to hang out at Bayern and win a few trophies, which must’ve been nice for him even if he certainly wasn’t the main man there either. Perhaps he will now get that chance at Villa as he reunites with the manager who gave him his debut back at Villarreal.
