In the aftermath of Tyson Fury’s win over the weekend and the subsequent theatrics where he called out Anthony Joshua sitting ringside — which ultimately fell flat — Queensberry promoter Frank Warren shares his perspective on what transpired and where things stand, as far as he’s concerned.
Warren on Fury’s performance against Makhmudov
“I think it was good to get the ring rust out of his system. He’s in with a tough guy in Makhmudov…I thought Tyson did what he had to do and for me it’s good that he got the rounds in the bank and now it’s on to the big
one, if they will sign up for it.”
On how hopeful he is that a Fury vs Joshua fight will be made
“I’m very hopeful. I keep talking about it, it’s the fight obviously everybody in here — when Tyson called out, the whole stadium made it very clear what they wanted. They want it and it’s up to AJ now. He either wants it or he don’t and we’re going to get it on or we’re not.
“There’s been lots of discussions with AJ, [Turki Alalshikh], so we’ll see what happens.”
