As the group stage comes to a close, Bayern Munich have had one of the most successful campaigns. Barring the loss to Arsenal FC, Bayern have stood their ground and fought for each and every win. Their
efforts have paid dividends, as Bayern racked up a massive tally of points, placing them high up the table.
Bayern faced Union Saint-Gilloise at home, their penultimate group stage fixture. The game had its highs and lows, but the Bavarians persevered and fought hard for a 2-0 win.
This win against the Belgian side now places Bayern second in the Champions League table, right under Arsenal FC. Their position means they have secured a spot in the round of 16. Securing this early on also means that Bayern will not have to face play-offs, thus reducing their burden.
The man of the match, Harry Kane spoke on the importance of securing a spot in the round of 16, via @iMiaSanMia.
“That’s important. Last year we had to go through the playoffs and made February very busy,” he said, explaining the reduced load on their schedule.
“Credit to the boys. We still have a game next week and we want to finish on a high,” he declared.
