Unified super featherweight champ Alycia Baumgardner may have her first MVP main event slot, as Dan Rafael reports that she’ll headline an April 17th show at The Theater at Madison Square Garden opposite former lightweight title challenger Bo Mi Re Shin.
Baumgardner (17-1, 7 KO) signed with Jake Paul’s outfit last March and stands at 2-0 under their banner, struggling past Jennifer Miranda before sacrificing her WBC belt to beat Leila Beaudoin over 12 rounds this past December. She still holds the WBO,
WBA, and IBF belts, which will presumably be on the line in NYC. No word yet as to whether this will also be a 12×3 affair.
Shin (19-3-3, 10 KO), for her part, gave Caroline Dubois a decent fight last March en route to a majority decision defeat; this dropped her to 0-2 against noteworthy opponents, as she lost a split decision to veteran Delfine Persoon in 2023.
Not a bad matchup on its own merits, and Shin is ostensibly aggressive enough to keep Baumgardner from slipping into cruise control. It just feels like Baumgardner’s still treading water despite all her hardware and MVP’s massive roster, unable to secure a fight on the level of her 2022 showdown with Mikaela Mayer.
