Chris Eubank Jr. just made some pretty serious accusations against Eddie Hearn.
Eubank first faced Hearn’s fighter, Conor Benn, in a highly publicized fight in April, winning by unanimous decision. The two have a bitter history with one another, dating back to their fathers, who faced each other twice in title fights during the ‘90s. Now, Eubank and Benn are set to run things back on Nov. 15 at Tottenham Stadium in London, and the bad blood between the camps seems only to have increased.
On Wednesday,
the two met for the first press conference ahead of their rematch, and things picked up right where they left off. Eubank leveled several grievances against Benn’s team and Hearn in particular, claiming they messed with his weight cut, attempted to disrupt his fight night preparations by bringing a personal nemesis to his changing room, and breached their fight contract by letting Benn fight in gloves filled with horse hair. But the most salacious accusation from Eubank came from after the fight, when he claims Hearn and Team Benn prevented him from a timely trip to the hospital.
“After the fight, due to severe dehydration, I’m put in an ambulance and I have to go to hospital,” Benn said. “I’m so dehydrated that one of the toenails on my big toe fell off. … I’m in the ambulance and these scumbags blocked that ambulance from leaving the stadium for 20 minutes.”
“That is absolute waffle,” Hearn interjected. “Waffle!”
This accusation led to an extended argument between the two, with Hearn repeatedly attempting to interrupt Eubank.
“Twenty minutes. I’m lying there on a gurney, oxygen mask on, the car cannot move,” Eubank said. “They will not open the gates to let us leave.”
“Sorry, who won’t open the gates?” Hearn asked.
“Now, if this was a serious injury that I had sustained, that 20 minutes could’ve been the difference between life and death,” Eubank continued.
“I want to know who wouldn’t open the gates,” Hearn pressed. “It’s important. You can’t answer that, can you? You talk shit, Eubank.”
“While this is all happening, Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn are in here talking to the media, lying about how I had a broken jaw and that was the reason I was going to hospital,” Eubank said. “Bullshit artists of the highest degree. Absolute highest.”
“Chris, can we just get one thing clear: can you confirm you are accusing us? Matchroom?” Hearn asked.
“Why else was I in an ambulance for 20 minutes?” Eubank replied.
“Say that Matchroom stopped you from going to the hospital,” Hearn insisted.
“What, so you can try and sue me with your little lawyers?” Eubank responded.
“I think you’re talking about the wrong guy. Say it! You talk shit,” Hearn replied.
“These are the levels that these people go to,” Eubank continued.
“We stopped you from going because your toenail was falling off. I’ve heard it all now,” Hearn retorted.
The argument didn’t stop there. Eubank and Hearn spent most of the press conference bickering, with Eubank mostly not attacking Benn, but Hearn instead.
“The fact of the matter is you are a glorified desk jockey,” Eubank said. “That’s what you are, living off of the back of hardworking fighters. The fact that you can sit up here talking about how popular and famous you are, it just shows you the level of ego and narcissism we’re dealing with here.”
“What I don’t want to have is someone lying about what happened on the night to try and gain more popularity,” Hearn responded. “About your weight cut, about all the bullshit you want to come out with. You’re playing the victim! You’re playing victim, and we see through you.”
“I won the fight!” Eubank reminded him.
“Well done,” Hearn conceded. “We gave you the respect. But you accuse us of stopping the ambulance from going to the hospital. We’ll see. You’re an asshole, you talk shit, you’ll get what’s coming to you.”
