Barcelona Femeni started the season by hitting eight goals past Alhama and repeated the trick on Sunday by smashing Athletic Club 8-1 at San Mames.
Pere Romeu’s side, who have endured a tricky pre-season due to the departure of several players, still look indestructable at present and turned on the style in the Basque Country.
Vicky López scored the opening goal after just 15 minutes, before Patri grabbed a brilliant goal from virtually on the halfway line to make it 2-0.
The visitors weren’t done there either. Ewa Pajor bagged a brace before the half-time break to ensure Barcelona Atletic went in with a 4-0 lead.
An Athletic own goal then put Barca Atletic 5-0 up, although the visitors did then pull one back.
Yet that was as good for the hosts. Aitana made it 6-1 with a great finish, while Lopez and Bonmati both scored again to seal braces and an emphatic victory.
As starts to the season go, it doesn’t get much better than this.
