In what has been a roller-coaster season and one full of new records, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats just keep adding on. The Cats dropped their third game in a row on Saturday in Neville Arena, which puts them at 17-10 on the season with four regular-season games remaining on the schedule.
The Wildcats have had four straight double-digit-loss seasons for the first time since the end of the Tubby Smith era, through Billy G’s first two seasons in Lexington. A severe rough patch as the Wildcats parted
ways with John Calipari and hired Pope. Calipari also had two seasons of 10+ losses to end his Kentucky career.
It’s also likely going to be the seventh straight season of not making at least the Elite Eight. Just a brutal stretch for the men’s basketball program since COVID.
Another unfortunate record that occurred after Saturday’s loss is that the Wildcats have lost three straight games for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Calipari’s year ended with 9 wins and 16 losses.
As the Wildcats got hot and won 8 out of their last 10 games, they have now lost three in a row and are currently projected to play on the first day of the SEC Tournament in Nashville. It would be a tough road ahead if the Wildcats want to win their 33rd SEC tournament championship, and first since 2018.
