During his time in WWE, Steve Blackman was known as one of the toughest guys in a locker room full of legitimate badasses. The Attitude Era star drew on his martial arts background in hardcore matches, and his feud with Ken Shamrock was a highlight on both men’s resumes.
Those skills have also served Blackman well in the work he pursued after his time in the ring as a bail bondsman. The former WWE Hardcore Champion spoke about his current profession during the most recent episode of the Stories with
Brisco and Bradshaw podcast.
While sharing tales of his 18 years working in the bail bonds business with WWE Hall of Famers Gerald Brisco and John Bradshaw Layfield, Blackman said that he’s “got a pretty good rapport with a lot” of the people he’s bailed out of jail since they’re mostly locals in his current home base of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. However, he noted some people “will lie to you to get out.”
After Brisco asked if anybody ever tried to get physical with him, Blackman recounted a story about a 525-man who failed to appear for court.
“I’m fuming. Nobody would get this guy out. I went and got him out of another jail, bring him back here,” Blackman said. “So finally after days of this, I get him on the phone, and we have the apartment complex surrounded where he’s at. And I’m like, ‘Dude, you’re kidding me, right? Nobody would get you out but me. Because I’ve known, you know, a bunch of your friends and family.’ I said, ‘I’m the only person who got you out, and you’re going to screw me by not going to court.’”
Blackman continued: “I said, ‘Are you standing right inside the door there at this apartment?’ He goes, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’m going to tell you right now, get the f out of the way, because I’m going to drive my truck straight through that front door, and I’m going to haul your ass out of there.’ I said, ‘I’m coming in one minute. I’m going to drive right through the wall.’”
The threat of Blackman driving a truck through the apartment wall apparently worked, because the large man then said that he would come out if he was brought a pizza.
“We got him a pizza, and he just came with us,” Blackman said.
After laughing with JBL and Brisco, Blackman added: “I mean, he had me just so mad that I – You know what? If he actually does this (with the pizza), I can live with it. Let’s just do it and get it over with.”
What do you think, Cagesiders? Would you have tested Blackman’s truck threat if you were on the lam? Let us know in the comments.
