Deontay Wilder returned to action earlier today (Sat., April 4, 2026) to face longtime veteran, Derek Chisora, who was taking part in the final fight of his lengthy combat career inside 02 Arena on London, England.
From the get-go both men came out swinging, and it was evident right away they were there to go for the kill. Chisora worked the body repeatedly, while Wilder used his reach to utilize his jab to keep the big man at bay. Up close, Chisora was able to punish “The Bronx Bomber’s” ribs.
The
story of the fight, however, was just how sloppy the fight was. Chisora — who was visibly exhausted — took several tumbles to the canvas. In turn, Chisora dragged Wilder down on a a couple of occasions, and at one point both men went down at once. In the opening round, both men nearly went over the ropes prompting one of the cornermen to go into the ring, for whatever reason.
In the fourth and eighth rounds Wilder was able to knock Chisora down, though Chisora managed to get back up on both occasions. Once the action got started again, Wilder pushed Chisora out of the ring a couple of times, but a lot of it had to do with Chisora not having his legs with with as he was visibly tired.
Overall, the fight was very sloppy since neither man showed much technique, but it was very entertaining as both left it all in the ring in what was nothing more than a big man slugfest. In the end Wilder was awarded the split-decision win, sending Chisora into potential retirement on a defeat. For “The Bronx Bomber,” it’s his second straight win, inching him closer to a potential long-awaited showdown against Anthony Joshua.
