The Chicago Bears (2-2) and the Washington Commanders (3-2) will meet up in eight days on Monday Night Football (October 13) in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season. These two teams played last year, and the game ended in improbable fashion with a Hail Mary for Washington that seemingly started Chicago on a downward spiral.
Lost in the discourse about that game is the fourth-quarter comeback by the Bears, which put them in position to win. After stumbling through nearly three quarters
of scoreless football, the Bears got a 56-yard touchdown run by D’Andre Swift in the final minute of the third, and a Roschon Johnson 2-yard TD, followed by a Caleb Williams to Cole Kmet 2-point conversion with just 25 seconds left in the game to give them a 15 to 12 lead.
That should have been it.
Now that I have the benefit of hindsight, I’m glad the game exposed head coach Matt Eberflus in such a dramatic way, because that did start the franchise on the path that led them to Ben Johnson.
There’s no doubt emotions will be high for the Bears players still in Chicago for this rematch next Monday.
Just like a season ago, the Bears are coming off their bye before traveling to Landover, Maryland, while the Commanders are coming off a nice win over the Los Angeles Chargers, 26-10.
Our partners at FanDuel Sportsbook have Washington favored by 4.5 points, and the point total over/under for the game is set at 50.5.
Last year, the Commanders went (12-5), claiming a Wildcard spot in the NFC before losing in the NFC Championship game to the Eagles.
What are your thoughts bout these early odds for the game?
