Real Madrid are putting another finishing touch on the Santiago Bernabéu renovation, with new illuminated “Bernabéu” lettering now being tested on the stadium’s main façade.
The large letters have been installed on the side of the stadium facing Paseo de la Castellana, with Madrid continuing to experiment with how the signage will look once illuminated at night. White lighting is among the options being tested, while other trials have included combinations of yellow, green and white, as well as yellow, red
and white.
The work comes ahead of Real Madrid’s first La Liga home game of the 2026-27 season, against Real Sociedad on August 26 at 21:30 CET.
The exterior signage is not yet complete. A stadium logo is expected to be added alongside the Bernabéu lettering in the coming days as the club continues to finalize the appearance of the renovated façade.
The installation is being handled by Tecnoseñal, a signage company based in Herencia, Ciudad Real, with experience working on corporate signage and branding projects. There is also a geographical connection to the man whose name the stadium carries: Santiago Bernabéu was born in Almansa, Albacete, also in Castilla-La Mancha.
The decision to prominently display only “Bernabéu” also reflects the shorter identity Madrid have increasingly used for the stadium. The Bernabéu remains the venue’s official name, with the simplified branding becoming more visible around the stadium and in the club’s commercial presentation.
The latest work represents another step toward completing a renovation project that began in 2019. Although the Bernabéu has been operational throughout much of the latter stages of construction, Madrid have continued to make adjustments to the exterior, interior and surrounding areas.
With the new season approaching, the illuminated lettering will give the stadium another recognizable feature at night — and restore one of the most important pieces of its external identity to the extensively remodeled façade.
