Bayern Munich could be facing a significant injury headache following Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund, with Max Eberl providing an update on the conditions of three players who were forced to deal with physical problems during Der Klassiker.
Speaking after the match, the Bayern sporting director confirmed that the injuries suffered by Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry appear to be more concerning than initially hoped.
“Both injuries are somewhat more serious,” Eberl explained to Abendzeitung’s
Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That is particularly frustrating for Bayern Munich, considering both players had to leave the pitch during the first half. Saibari’s situation looked especially worrying, with the midfielder subsequently photographed leaving the Allianz Arena on crutches. Further examinations will be necessary to establish the exact nature of his injury and how long he could be unavailable.
There was, however, comparatively better news regarding Michael Olise. The French winger also appeared to experience discomfort during the second half and was unable to continue, but Eberl indicated that his injury does not appear to be quite as serious as those suffered by his teammates. Nevertheless, further tests are still pending, meaning there is no definitive diagnosis or guarantee regarding his availability for upcoming fixtures. Olise was, however, seen limping as he left the complex.
The timing could hardly be worse for Bayern Munich. With Luis Díaz already sidelined, Jamal Musiala still working toward his comeback, and now potentially three more attacking players dealing with injuries, Vincent Kompany’s options could become increasingly limited.
Bayern Munich will be anxiously awaiting the results of the medical examinations, particularly with Atlético Madrid coming up in the Champions League.
