According to Ian Rapoport, the Baltimore Ravens will look to add help at quarterback after Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury that could sideline him for the rest of the season, and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will miss an extended period with turf toe. That leaves Baltimore with only a QB3.
“I do expect the Baltimore Ravens to go out and consider some QB trades, and kinda discuss, ‘How bold do you wanna be?’ Do you want to go out and spend a lot of capital for a quarterback in a season that
may be lost because you don’t have Lamar? Or is it going to be a stopgap, and then you end up a seller? These are real decisions that general manager Eric DeCosta and the rest of the Ravens brass.”
Rapoport mentioned Tyson Bagent, who was the backup for the Bears under now-Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle last year, as an option. He also brought up Jacoby Brissett, who was benched in Week 8 by the Arizona Cardinals. “There are some options. There aren’t great options, but there are some options out there.”
Mac Jones has an expiring contract. He has no ties to Doyle and the Ravens, but he has starting experience and proved he can win last season. The San Francisco 49ers still might value Jones more than those on the outside think they should, given how much they relied on a backup in 2025.
It’s a move that doesn’t make sense, but the Vikings, despite their record, are struggling at quarterback. Surprise, surprise: Kyler Murray doesn’t look the part. But why would the 49ers make a playoff contender better?
That’s essentially the landscape for quarterback-needy teams in the playoff hunt. It’s slim pickings, and that means Mac Jones is likely here to stay.
