John Cena’s WWE farewell tour ended last December when he gave up in his final career match against GUNTHER. Cena wasn’t gone from WWE programming for long, as he came back in April to host WrestleMania 42, and then also appeared at Backlash in May to announce The Wins and Losses Don’t Matter John Cena Classic.
More recently, Cena at least slightly the cracked the door open for a return to the ring by saying it might be possible for a ridiculously stupid amount of money.
During an appearance this week
at SpaceCon, Cena took that idea a step further by naming the one man who has enough money to convince him to go back on his word and unretire from wrestling: Elon Musk.
“I’m gonna put this in terms the room hopefully understands. I cannot speak in absolutes, because again, I don’t control that. But I think the only person that can convince me to come back given the recent events would be Mr. Elon Musk, and he’d have to give up a whole lot of his fortune to do so. So, until he does that, I think I’m gonna stay retired.”
John went on to say that he doesn’t want to screw over fans who bought any of his “The Last Time Is Now” merchandise last year by coming back in the future to render it all meaningless.
“A lot of it has to do with my health, but a lot more of it has to do with my integrity. And I told everybody that this last year would be my last year, and I meant it. I’m not exactly perfect. I’ve had good matches and bad matches. But I try to lead with honesty, and I know my strongest currency is my word. So that’s a lot of the reason I want to stay retired too, because I gave everybody in here my word.”
Do you think Cena will soon put an exact price tag on how many millions, billions, or trillions of dollars Musk must pay in order to get him to throw away his integrity and come out of retirement? Is the government of Saudi Arabia instead willing to pay that price for next year at WrestleMania 43? What about Cena’s beloved Vince McMahon, if he ever finds his way back to leading a wrestling promotion?
Let me know in the comments below if you think anyone will ever find the right number to get Cena to don the jorts and tap out one more time, Cagesiders.
