The inaugural season of the Women’s Professional Baseball League has arrived at the championship series: The No. 3 Los Angeles Queens vs. the No. 1 San Francisco Firebells. Game 1 of the best-of-five series takes place tonight.

“The WPBL’s Championship Series represents a monumental milestone for women’s professional baseball,” said WPBL commissioner Justine Seigal said in a press release. “The Firebells and the Queens have shown incredible skill, resilience, and sportsmanship

all season. Fans are in for an unforgettable series as these two incredible teams compete for the championship trophy.”

The Firebells swept the Boston Hunters 2-0 in their semifinals, which concluded on Sept. 11, while the Queens squeaked out a 15-11 Game 3 victory over the New York Heights on Monday. San Francisco won the regular-season series against L.A. 3-2.

For fans of “A League of Our Own,” actress Megan Cavanagh, who played Marla Houch in the 1992 classic film, will be attending Game 1. WPBL will be hosting a FanFest before the game to kick off the first title series in style.
