When Mitch Barnhart made the decision to hire Oregon’s Will Stein, the Big Blue Nation locked in for what was sure to be an eventful offseason for Kentucky Football.
On Thursday, the new year rang in with news that Cutter Boley would be entering the transfer portal, likely ending his time in Lexington. The Kentucky native showed signs of brilliance during his brief stint under center, but things never totally clicked. Now, Stein will look to the transfer portal to find his QB1, which will be one of the most
important decisions in his early tenure as the Cats’ head man.
Not long ago, the quarterback position was considered to be a strength for UK and an element to build the program around. Perhaps it will be best for the first-year head coach to hand-pick his own gunslinger.
Kentucky has now been linked to a big name in the transfer portal that should get fans excited.
Former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover has been mentioned in connection with Kentucky and multiple other programs, including Indiana and Louisville, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Hoover has filled up the stat sheet and win column during his time at TCU. For his career, the former 3-star recruit has tossed for 71 touchdowns and nearly 10,000 yards. The Texas native can flat-out chuck it.
Stein is obviously pretty busy navigating the Ducks through the College Football Playoff, but I’m sure he’s making moves and working every channel that he can in the meantime.
There’s no doubt that adding a piece like Josh Hoover would immediately put UK in a position to compete at a high level and attract top talent to play alongside him.
