The Syracuse Orange football off-season coaching carousel keeps spinning. Last night, a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports indicated that the Orange would hire Georgia State assistant Head Coach Jeremy Hawkins for the role of defensive line coach.
Hawkins has been at Georgia State for two seasons and has previous experience from Eastern Kentucky, Mercer, LSU and UAB. At LSU and UAB, Hawkins served in player personnel roles and that’s important for the Orange because of who he’ll be replacing.
While we wait on official word of Elijah Robinson’s departure, Syracuse defensive ends coach Nick Williams is leaving for the same role at Florida State.
Robinson and Williams have been mentioned by several players as being main reasons why they chose Syracuse. Hawkins comes to the Orange with a reputation of being able to continue that momentum and he’ll be joining new DC Vince Kehres.
There’s a few more openings for Fran Brown to fill so we’ll be watching out as we lead up to January’s transfer portal.
