Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 0, Durham Bulls (Rays) 0 – Suspended/4
This game was suspended in the fourth inning due to weather. It will be completed today, followed by the normally scheduled game between these two clubs.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 9, Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) 2
The Baysox put up a six-spot in the fourth inning, and got a nice night of pitching to snap their five-game losing streak.
Anderson De Los Santos led the way with four hits on the night, including his first triple of the season. The Chesapeake first baseman also drove in a pair of runs and stole a base. Aron Estrada showed up as well, going 3-for-4
with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI. Adam Retzbach reached base three times on a single and two walks. As a team, Chesapeake went 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
Evan Yates delivered five solid innings as the Baysox starter. He allowed just two runs on six hits, a walk, and five strikeouts. His ERA in May is 3.08, a big improvement from April (6.75), when he was still trying to find his footing. Zane Barnhart and Daniel Lloyd wrapped up the day with two scoreless innings apiece.
High-A: Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies) 5, Frederick Keys 4
One bad inning on the mound, and failure to cash in with runners on base cost the Keys their four-game winning streak on Tuesday afternoon in Lakewood, New Jersey.
Frederick had plenty of runners on base. They collected six hits and six walks. But they went just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on throughout the night. Wehiwa Aloy’s double was their only extra-base hit. Ike Irish went 1-for-4 with a single, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Vance Honeycutt walked twice and did not strikeout. Alfredo Velázquez singled and stole a base.
The news on the mound was mostly good. Three of the four Keys pitchers were impressive. That included starter Boston Bateman, who delivered five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts. That is the first earned run he has allowed in three starts. His ERA for the month of May is a microscopic 0.89. Todd Kniebbe was brought on for the sixth inning, and he had trouble. After retiring the first two batters he faced, the next five would reach base, scoring three runs and knocking Kniebbe from the game. Jacob Cravey got out of the jam and tossed a scoreless seventh inning. Chandler Marsh provided a scoreless eighth inning.
Low-A: Fredericksburg Nationals 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 3
The Shorebirds outhit the visiting Nationals 8-5, but were unable to make the most of their opportunities in a losing effort on Tuesday night in Salisbury.
Delmarva did not record any extra-base hits, and scored all three of their runs in the first two innings. After that, they went pretty quiet. A rehabbing Enrique Bradfield Jr. went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Stiven Martinez reached base three times with two hits and a walk. Joshua Liranzo and Edwin Ampar0 also had two hits each. Raylin Ramos and DJ Layton had one stolen base apiece.
Only two Shorebirds pitchers too the mound. Denton Biller started and went four innings, allowing three runs on two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Andrew Herbert, a 25-year-old that Orioles just signed last week, made his affiliated baseball debut in this game, and he was quite good. Over five innings the 6-foot-6 hurler allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out seven in the process. But he took the tough luck loss anyway.
