Women’s Volleyball (4-4)
The No. 13 women’s volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 5 Pitt last night. Kennedy Martin had 16 kills and five digs, but the Panthers’ defense held Penn State to just 0.169 hitting percentage for the match. Pitt won the first two sets before Penn State answered with a win in the third set. Pitt ran away with the fourth set 25-17 after the set was tied at 10.
Penn State will close out non-conference play with matches against Princeton on Friday (7pm on Big Ten Plus) and Central Michigan on Sunday (2pm
on Big Ten Plus).
Women’s Soccer (5-2-1)
After a week off, the No. 8 women’s soccer team will take on Nebraska tonight at 6pm on BTN.
Penn State ranks No. 6 in the season’s initial RPI ranking thanks to a very difficult non-conference schedule and three top 50 wins so far this season. The Nittany Lions should be in contention for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Penn State will later take on Wisconsin on Sunday (3pm on Big Ten Plus).
Field Hockey (4-1)
The No. 16 field hockey team extended its winning streak to four games with a 2-1 win over Bucknell and a 5-2 win over Kent State.
Cooper Cutchins and Katelyn Strawser each scored a goal in the first half against Bucknell, and their tallies were enough to earn the Nittany Lions a win despite a quiet second half. Five different players scored a goal against Kent State in the team’s largest scoring output of the season to date. Penn State outshot Kent State 25-9, including a 16-5 margin in shots on goal, in the team’s most dominant performance to date.
Penn State will travel to Maryland on Friday (5pm) and Lafayette on Sunday (Noon).
Men’s Soccer (2-3-1)
The men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Rutgers in the Big Ten opener, a frustrating performance for a struggling offense. Jonathan Evans made six saves in net for the Nittany Lions, the most saves by a Penn State goalie in a game since Andrew Cooke’s nine stops against Ohio State in 2024.
Penn State will host No. 5 Indiana on Friday (7pm on Big Ten Plus) and Maryland on Tuesday (8pm on BTN).
