The UEFA Champions League quarter-finals get underway with the first legs, as the competition enters a decisive stage of the knockout phase. Eight teams remain, with ties set to be played across two legs as clubs aim to take a step closer to the semi-finals.
For UCL Fantasy managers, this is Matchday 13, where squad selection becomes more focused with fewer teams and limited options available.
In this Rate My Team piece, I’ll make a few adjustments to my squads ahead of the deadline, focusing on key
players, captaincy choices, and the decisions I think could shape Matchday 13.
UCL Matchday 13 Team
Heading into Matchday 13, David Raya starts in goal and has been the gold standard in UCL Fantasy this season. He remains one of the standout goalkeepers in the competition, heading into Arsenal’s trip to Sporting CP tonight in the quarter-final first leg.
Arsenal have been one of the most reliable defensive sides this season, standing out among Europe’s top clubs for their consistency in keeping clean sheets across both the Premier League and the Champions League, which strengthens Raya’s appeal even for this away fixture.
Even if Sporting finds a way through, Raya’s save potential means he can still return well, making him a reliable option in goal for this Matchday 13.
In defence, Gabriel Magalhaes has been at the heart of Arsenal’s backline this season, playing a key role in one of the most reliable defences in the Champions League.
He has kept five clean sheets and scored once so far this season, offering both defensive security and an attacking threat from set pieces.
Heading into the quarter-final first leg against Sporting CP, his clean sheet potential remains strong. Alongside him, Willian Pacho stands out as a differential heading into Matchday 13, selected by just 17% of managers.
He has kept three clean sheets and scored twice this season, showing his value at both ends of the pitch, and he is likely to be heavily involved in a challenging clash against Liverpool.
Completing the defence is Josip Stanisic, a low-owned option selected by just 1% of managers and priced at €4.4m. He has recorded two clean sheets and 29 points so far this season, making him a solid budget enabler.
While a clean sheet away at the Bernabeu is a tough ask, his role in the team and defensive involvement still give him a path to return.
In midfield, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez offer strong routes into Barcelona’s attack, with the team continuing their high-scoring form into the knockout rounds.
Alongside them, Vinicius Junior remains a key threat for Real Madrid in big European games, while Ademola Lookman provides a dangerous counter-attacking option and a strong differential for this stage.
So in all, each of these midfielders brings a different way to gain points and can be key picks for Matchday 13.
In attack, going without Kylian Mbappe carries real risk as he continues to deliver consistent returns and stands out as one of the top captaincy options for this round.
Real Madrid still has plenty of attacking quality, while Harry Kane remains a major threat, although the tough away fixture brings some doubt.
He is always capable of returning points, but this matchup makes him slightly less secure than usual.
With Barcelona not fully solid at the back, Julian Alvarez emerges as a strong option, especially with penalties available to him and his ability to step up in important moments.
So with the key forwards and midfield threats all in play and a few fitness doubts to monitor before the deadline, who are you backing as your captain, and which attackers do you think will be the biggest difference-makers for Matchday 13? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
