The Miami Dolphins have signed former UFL safety Major Burns to their roster, as per the team’s official account on X.
Burns played college football for the University of Georgia and LSU, and signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2025. However, he was waived just one month before the 2025 NFL season, due to injury.
In 2026, Burns signed with the Houston Gamblers of the United Football League, or UFL. He led the league in interceptions, posted 47 tackles, and four pass-breakups
in nine games played. Pro Football Focus graded his season at a stellar 90.1, as he earned All-UFL honors.
Burns stands at 6’2 and weights 207 pounds, slightly above average for most safeties around the NFL. Head coach Jeff Hafley’s specialty is defensive backs, so coaching up the once-highly regarded Burns into a serviceable player is not of the question. Certainly, the physical tools are there to be molded.
Currently, the Dolphins have the following players rostered at the safety position:
- Omar Brown
- Zayne Anderson
- Lonnie Johnson Jr.
- Louis Moore (R)
- Michael Taaffe (R)
- Dante Trader Jr.
- Major Burns
Trader is currently a lock to start on defense, with Hafley recently complimenting his leadership ability. Moore and Taaffe are rookies, but the organization has high hopes for both. As such, Burns will have his work cut out if he wants to make the final 53-man roster.
