It’s a primetime, top-of-the-table clash this weekend in the Frauen-Bundesliga as #1 Bayern Munich travels on the road to take on #2 Eintracht Frankfurt with kickoff near noon Eastern.
After five matchdays, the Bavarians are a perfect 5-0-0 while Eintracht Frankfurt has just the one draw to four wins. Bayern were pushed and taxed in a midweek Champions League road trip to Benfica in which the German champions ultimately emerged victorious. Now there is little time for rest.
“Eintracht Frankfurt are
in a very good spell at the moment and will be hugely challenging opponents,” acknowledged Bayern coach José Barcala in comments captured by FCBayern.com. “They’re extremely aggressive in their transitions and have some very dangerous players in [Laura] Freigang, [Ereleta] Memeti and [Larissa] Mühlhaus. We have to stay precise, compact and focused over 90 minutes — otherwise Frankfurt can punish any lapses.”
Bayern will be missing striker Jovana Damnjanović and Vanessa Gilles to muscular injuries, in addition to the longer-term absences of Lena Oberdorf and Magdalena Eriksson.
Prediction: 2-2. Goals aren’t going to come easy in this one but this is a Bayern team that, thanks to injuries whittling away at depth and match congestion, is going to be glad to come away with a point to take into the international period.
It’s Bayern time.
