The Cleveland Browns have a major opportunity to change the narrative about the team over the next two weeks.
With Sunday’s game in the books, the Browns start the week tied with the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North Division.
Up next for the Browns are the 1-3 New York Jets, a team in perpetual turmoil and riding a three-game losing streak. Beat the Jets, and that sets up a huge showdown at home the following week against the Ravens.
That is putting the cart before the horse, of course,
as things have not gone well for the Browns in their last two road games against the Jets.
In 2020, COVID wiped out Cleveland’s wide receiver room, leaving quarterback Baker Mayfield throwing to Ja’Marcus Bradley and Marvin Hall in a seven-point loss.
Last year, it was breakdowns on special teams – the Jets returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown – along with a defense that could not stop a New York offense unable to complete a pass to save its life, for another seven-point loss.
If the Browns want to be taken seriously as contenders and not have Thursday’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers be the highlight of the season, they need to stay focused on the task at hand and take care of business against the Jets.
Then we can start talking about that first-place showdown with the Ravens.
On to today’s edition of the Daily Dawg Chow!
