Chelsea have managed to make a royal mess of our striker situation in the last 24 hours. Sure, Liam Delap’s (probably) long-term injury was certainly not part of the plan for the season, but in our blind panic, we not only managed to scupper an already agreed deal, we also decided to undo an already completed one! I’ve never seen that happen before: Chelsea attempting to recall Marc Guiu just a couple weeks after sending him on loan to Sunderland … and then Sunderland agreeing to it, too!
But that’s
just the tip of the iceberg as in the meantime, Bayern Munich have called off the Jackson deal on their end, too! Chelsea attempted to put a stop on that immediately in the wake of Delap’s injury, but Jackson refused to return even after his permission for the medical was revoked. Understandably, Bayern weren’t too inclined to wait around for too long; they’ve got other business to conclude as well.
However, Jackson’s future remains in limbo. He’s practically AWOL at the minute, though The Telegraph suggest that maybe Bayern might reignite their interest here on the final day. Or perhaps Newcastle United, seeing as how Alexander Isak is finally about to move to Liverpool for a Premier League transfer record (£125m), so they’ll have money to burn.
Or maybe something else will come out of left field? Given the events of the past 48 hours, can we be sure of any one specific conclusion to this saga? Ben Jacobs says “all parties are assessing” their options.
