Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala’s run of incredibly bad luck has struck once again as the attacker injured his thigh on Thursday during warmups as Germany prepared to face the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
As reported early on Friday, Musiala is expected to miss three-to-four weeks. Given that the international break extends for another week and there is a lead up to Bayern Munich’s return game against FC Augsburg on October 10th, Musiala will not miss all that much time.
However, this is the
latest in a string of issues that the 23-year-old has had to deal with. The broken leg he suffered at the Club World Cup in 2025 kept him out of action for months and still might have lingering effects. Aside of a muscular ailment or two he dealt with last season and into the summer, Musiala also had to battle through a bout of neurological absences as well.
Simply put, it has been a tough period for Musiala.
In some years, that might have spelled doom for the Bavarians, but not now. Vincent Kompany has multiple options to work with on his roster. With Serge Gnabry back from his own injury and summer transfer Ismael Saibari making a strong impression so far, there is ample coverage.
Another intriguing option could be Lennart Karl, who starred in the No. 10 role last season, but we could also see superstar Michael Olise slide into a central position from his starting job at right wing. Surely, Kompany has the kind of flexibility that will help him be able to management the situation very effectively.
While Olise is a weapon at right wing, it would not be shocking to see the France international take over at the No. 10 for at least one game, which would allow Kompany to give Karl a start at right wing. These are the kinds of luxuries that Kompany did not have access to last season at times.
While it is never good to see any player — let alone Musiala — go down with an injury, it is reassuring to know that Bayern Munich has the ability to handle the situation and has the right coverage to not skip a beat offensively.
