The Syracuse Orange finally return home this upcoming Saturday after a 35-day road trip. The Orange open their first home game much like they did as their last home game, as underdogs. Syracuse opens as +12.5 underdogs to Louisville according to FanDuel’s odds.
The Orange opened their last home game against Cal as underdogs before the line quickly swung in favor of Syracuse. The Orange would lose to the Golden Bears 21-18.
Syracuse is coming off yet another ACC loss. The Orange took a 17-7 lead into
halftime at Virginia. The Cavaliers scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to win 28-25 over Syracuse at Scott Stadium.
The Orange enter the preparations for Louisville with massive questions at quarterback. Syracuse is dealing with injuries to its top three quarterbacks. Presumed starter Amari Odom missed the Virginia game and had an MRI, with Fran Brown saying, “Something might be torn.” Malachi Nelson, the quarterback who started for Syracuse, seems to have a collarbone injury as well based on Brown’s post game comments. Steve Angeli, the quarterback who was Syracuse’s starting quarterback to begin the season, had a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) shot to the Achilles tendon he tore last season, according to Syracuse radio sideline reporter Tim Leonard. Brown said that Angeli would be out for “another week or so.”
Assuming all three quarterbacks remain unavailable for the Orange, that would leave Georgetown transfer Danny Lauter as the starting quarterback for Syracuse against Louisville. Lauter completed a touchdown and two-point conversion in his relief appearance for the Orange against Virginia. He finished the game going 2-6 for 50 yards and one touchdown.
Louisville comes to the JMA Wireless Dome after running all over Florida State during a primetime Friday game at Louisville. Cardinals running back Isaac Brown was the star of the show, rushing for 235 yards and two touchdowns as Louisville won 44-20 over the Seminoles.
The Orange and Cardinals are playing for the first time since 2022. That game was the first game since the Dome was renamed the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse played an incredible complimentary game of football with three takeaways on defense and excellent games from Garrett Sharder and Sean Tucker. The Orange started the 2022 season with a 31-7 win over the Cardinals.
Kickoff at the JMA Wireless Dome is 7:30 pm ET. The game will air on ACC Network.
