Entering week 5, the Seattle Seahawks bounced back in their power rankings after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers. However, after losing to the San Francisco 49ers, will Seattle fall down those rankings once again? Let’s take a look at five national media sites (NFL.com, CBS Sports, Bleacher Report (BR), Pro Football Talk (PFT), and ESPN) to see where they rank Seattle.
Let’s start with the national sites that were most punishing of Seattle after their loss to the 49ers. B/R, which dropped the Seahawks
down from 3rd to 6th, brought up the turnover issues that are plaguing the team. “The Seattle Seahawks are turning the ball over at an alarming rate – nine giveaways over the last four weeks.” Meanwhile, CBS also dropped Seattle down three spots, from 4th to 7th best. In this ranking, CBS mentions that Seattle has to get their running game going as it is the key to their offense working.
ESPN did drop the Seahawks as well, however they remain in the top five, coming in at number 4th best in the league, one spot down from last week. ESPN noted that the Seahawks have an issue on defense, however that issue happens to be the offense. ESPN mentioned that Seattle has given up 44 points off turnovers, which is tied for most in the NFL.
Both NFL.com and PFT did not penalize the Seahawks in their rankings despite the loss. PFT, who kept Seattle ranked at number five, stated that “they’re trying too hard to be something other than [what] they were in 2025.” Meanwhile, NFL.com who kept the Seahawks at third best in the NFL, also noted that the Seahawks (specifically Sam Darnold) need to clean up their play. However, NFL.com was also the only national site to maintain positivity over the team, stating that “a narrow loss to the No. 1 team in my rankings doesn’t knock the ‘Hawks down the board.”
Overall, it is not surprising to see the Seahawks fall down the power rankings after their second loss in three weeks. However, despite the slight slide down, the national media seems to be high on the team despite their turnover and run game concerns. If Seattle can fix those then they will still be a threat for another title run.
Entering week 5, the average power ranking between the five polled sites was 3.6. Entering Week 6, that average has fallen to an even 5.0. The Seahawks face the Denver Broncos next week on Thursday Night Football. Despite still having an average ranking in the top five, another loss (this time to the Broncos) could really have Seattle fall off of a cliff (at least in the power rankings sense).
