Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight finishers Mauricio Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler will square off this weekend (Sun., June 14, 2026) on the White House South Lawn from Washington, D.C., for UFC Freedom 250.
Less than a year ago, Ruffy’s undefeated run inside the Octagon came to an end at the hands of Benoit Saint Denis, who manhandled the Brazilian kickboxing ace en route to a second-round submission. Fortunately, Ruffy was able to rebound back in February, sparking Rafael Fiziev to reassert
himself as a possible title threat. Whether or not he’s improved his defensive wrestling and grappling? Chandler is here to find out. The 40-year-old veteran is in dire need of a win, as Chandler has lost three straight dating back to his May 2022 victory over the corpse of Tony Ferguson. It’s an odd matchup, yet it feels guaranteed to deliver a finish one way or another!

How Ruffy Wins
Ruffy is a sniper with some of the best straight punching on the entire UFC roster. His jab is an absolute piston, and Ruffy has about half-a-dozen different ways to deliver his right hand in show-stopping fashion. He’s a little too flashy and gimmicky at times with his standup attack, sure, but Ruffy is an undeniable talent with expert timing and serious power.
The playbook on defeating Chandler was already well-written and published half a decade ago. The short wrestler stands wide and explodes forward on straight lines. The former leads him highly vulnerable to calf kicks, while the latter has seen him run into hard counter punches on numerous occasions. Ruffy has nasty kicks, and he’s damn good at letting his opponent run into heavy punches — he feels custom-built to take apart Chandler on the feet!
Ruffy does have to respect the wrestling threat, however. Every jab and low kick landed decreases the odds of a Chandler takedown, but Ruffy will still need to bend his knees a bit and avoid the fence. Before too long, however, Ruffy can open up and let his hands fly.
How Chandler Wins
Chandler is one of the most explosive wrestle-boxers of the last decade. “Iron” has massive power in his right hand regardless of whether he throws it straight down the middle or with the windup of a a pitcher aiming to break 100 miles-per-hour. The former D-1 All-American also loves to throw opponents on their head, and he’s quite good at controlling opponents on the canvas.
“Iron” doesn’t just have to take a page from the Benoit Saint Denis playbook — he better copy it sentence-for-sentence! Chandler does not win this fight without constant pressure, big swings, and relentless takedowns. He wants to limit trades as much as humanly possible, doing just what’s necessary to get Ruffy’s back to the fence.
This actually isn’t a bad matchup if Chandler can still wrestle. If the man who faced Dustin Poirier still exists, he’s the far superior ground fighter and has the physicality to dominate this fight on the canvas. The question is, at 40 years of age, can Chandler still bend his knees and chain takedowns together in a fully committed way?
If not, he has no chance.
Ruffy vs. Chandler Prediction
This feels like a scheduled execution. The Michael Chandler from five years ago was already a bit washed but would have mopped the floor with Ruffy. His wrestling has been on consistent decline since then, however, so it’s impossible to have any faith that he’ll turn back the clock and toss Ruffy on his head.
I have to wonder: did Chandler annoy somebody high up in the UFC? This matchup is downright vindictive! Not only did the promotion pull the Conor McGregor fight from his clawing hands, but they have also nearly guaranteed him a painful knockout loss on the White House lawn.
“Iron” Mike needs a miracle.
