As expected, Filip Jörgensen will be spending the season on loan at sister-club RC Strasbourg, with the move made official earlier today. Jörgensen had flown home early from Chelsea’s preseason tour — just a couple days after first landing in Australia in fact — but it’s still taken a couple weeks to actually finalize the move.
This will be the third straight season that RCSA’s starting goalkeeper will be a Chelsea loanee, with Jörgensen following in the footsteps of Đorđe Petrović and Mike Penders,
both of whom had a pretty good time of it in Ligue 1. Petrović in fact leveraged that move into becoming AFC Bournemouth’s starting goalkeeper while Penders is set to be Robert Sánchez’s backup this season for us.
Hopefully Jörgensen can find similar success after his disappointing couple years at Stamford Bridge. (Whether there might be any future beyond that at Chelsea for him seems unlikely, but you never know.)
Good luck, Filip!
