Germany was outplayed by Ecuador in a 2-1 loss to the South Americans and Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich could identify one of the biggest problems in the game for the Germans — turnovers.
“We started well, but then we gave the ball away too cheaply and kept inviting them on. We made it easy for them and let them grow into the game. In the second half, the defeat was deserved. Luckily, there’s no serious consequence to this defeat. But we can’t afford another defeat, that’s clear. We can’t concede
one or two goals in every game. We have to minimize our turnovers, then we can beat anyone,” Kimmich said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kimmich is not wrong. Germany was poor with its ball control and decision-making, which led to a lot of mistakes. Ecuador was more than happy to take advantage of those miscues and snare a victory to seal its own progression to the knockout stage.
For Germany, though, tightening up its play will be at the forefront of the next few days.
