There is a potential interesting contract situation brewing in the NFL between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and star defensive tackle Vita Vea.
Vea wasn’t participating in the offseason sessions for the Buccaneers because he reportedly wants a contract adjustment. He is entering the final season of a four-year, $71 million contract with Tampa Bay, the only team he has spent his decorated eight-season career with.
These types of things are normal around the NFL. Often, they get figured out and everyone
moves on quietly.
But, sometimes, things get messy and contract talks cane get ugly. And it could lead to a divorce between a team and a player. That happens too.
So, let’s just say, if the Vea situation escaltes to the point where the Buccaneers would entertain the idea of trading Vea, expect the Las Vegas Raiders to be very interested observors.
If it, indeed, gets to the point where Vea gets moved, the Raiders would have to be considered a favorite to land Vea.
Of course, Las Vegas general manager John Spytek was in Tampa Bay with Vea and part owner Tom Brady was teammates with him for three season. Brady has publicly said how much he enjoyed playing with Vea.
Las Vegas can afford Vea and he’d be a great fit on their defense. He just turned 31 so he still has a few prime years remaining.
Again, this situation in in it’s infant stages, but if it escalates, it’s worth monitoring from a Las Vegas perspective for several reasons.
