Ferran Torres’s future at Barcelona is currently in doubt due to the fact he’s into the final year of his current contract and has reportedly attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
There’s also a little more to it than that, according to a new report from The Athletic. Barcelona are also thinking about selling Torres because of a clause in his contract that could prove costly if an extension is signed.
The Catalan giants would reportedly have to pay Torres’s former club Manchester City around
€8 million if the forward does extend his contract at Barcelona.
Such a move would take the total transfer fee for Torres to €73m. Barcelona signed Torres for an initial fee of €55m in 2022, with a further €10m in add-ons.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta played down talk of a transfer for Ferran Torres yesterday, but the club are open to selling and may also want to avoid him leaving on a free next year.
Torres is yet to speak about the latest speculation about his future and any decision will likely have to wait until the World Cup is over.
