The Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team is moving forward in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, having beaten the Oregon State Beavers and the No. 2 seed Miami Hurricanes to advance to the quarterfinals.
Entering the tournament as a No. 3 seed after compiling a 13-17 record during the regular season, the Badgers have gone on a run here in the postseason, extending their season and bringing them back to the Kohl Center for a showdown with Harvard on Thursday.
Wisconsin opened the
WBIT with a 62-58 win over Oregon State, as Dorja Zaja had 18 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in the win to lead the Badgers. In the win, Wisconsin held Oregon State to just 40.4 percent from the field, and held on after a late push by the Beavers, who cut a nine-point lead to one before losing by four.
In the second round, the Badgers headed to Coral Gables to face the Miami Hurricanes, where they won 72-65 behind 23 points and seven assists from Destiny Howell, 14 points and 13 rebounds from Kyrah Daniels, and 13 points and 11 rebounds from Gift Uchenna.
Once again, Wisconsin’s defense was key, as they held Miami to just 32.6 percent from the field in the win.
Now, they’ll take on Harvard, which beat Navy and Eastern Kentucky to make the quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Kohl Center on ESPN+.
