We’ve known for several days that the Dodgers will open their postseason in the National League Division Series on Saturday, October 3 at home at Dodger Stadium, locked in as the No. 2 seed in the NL playoffs. Now we know the two teams that will play for the right to come to Los Angeles next weekend.
The Philadelphia Phillies won at home on Sunday, snapping a four-game losing streak to clinch the third and final wild card spot in the National League. Philadelphia will be the No. 6 seed and play the No. 3
seed Braves — winners of the NL East — in a best-of-three wild card series beginning Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.
The Dodgers lost five of six games to the Braves this season. They beat ace Chris Sale in a nail-biter on May 8 at Dodger Stadium in the very first matchup, but then lost the next five. That included a three-game sweep in Atlanta with the Braves winning three one-run games, the highlight of which was a 1-0 masterpiece by Sale, out-dueling Yoshinobu Yamamoto on August 27.
The Dodgers won four out of six games against the Phillies this season, including winning two out of three in Los Angeles from May 29-31 and taking two out of three at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia from July 20-22.
If you want to follow along during the wild card round, all three Braves-Phillies games will be televised by NBC and streamed on Peacock. Games 1-2 will both be played at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT) on Tuesday and Wednesday. Game 3, if necessary, will also start at 11 a.m. PT unless there are only two games remaining on Thursday along with the White Sox wild card series against the Astros, or if the Phillies and Braves are the only series left.
In those two scenarios, Game 3 of Phillies-Braves would start at 5 p.m. PT.
