We are seven games into the season and we are still stuck with the central question when it comes to the Houston Texans: what exactly are you?
Are they a passing team that gives up fourteen penalties a game (like they did today, of which 10 were accepted)?
Are they a smashmouth team with a defense that can stop anybody (except in overtime when they got absolutely steamrolled by Cam Skattebo and the Giants)?
Are they good? Are they bad?
Well, today’s 27-21 loss to the New York Giants, those last two questions
feel pretty irrelevant.
They are what they are and boy are they ever that.
Texans played down to their opponents yet again, racking up 237 yards of total offense a touchdown pass to Marvin Harrison Jr. (his first with the Texans) and an Xavier Hutchinson rush are the only touchdowns the Texans could get.
And the defense simply had no answers for J.J. McCarthy and Cam Skattebo.
I want you to read that statement again. The Houston Texans defense had no answers for a pretty pedestrian Giants offense; which they allowed to score 27 points and 420 yards of total offense.
But most of all, we need to talk about Kamari Lassiter. Something is clearly wrong and his play has suffered as a result. Also, too, the defense is weak against explosive plays now. That’s fun.
At any rate, this week is over, possibly the season, and the Texans go into their off week with way more questions in front of them than a Super Bowl caliber team should encounter at this point of the season.
