Lamine Yamal shone again in Barcelona’s 7-2 win over Newcastle in the Champions League, particularly in the second half as the Catalans ran riot.
The teenager’s performance drew fresh debate about his position at Barcelona, with Cadena SER’s Marcos Lopez confident that Yamal will end up moving into a more central position for the Catalan giants.
“Raphinha is playing at an excellent level, Lewandowski seems to have shaken off his demons , and Lamine played differently today. Today Lamine wasn’t so close
to the touchline. I think that sooner or later Lamine is going to have to play there, centrally,” he said.
“He’s an incredible player. His first goal came from a turn that left the English defender on his heels. From there, he played a through ball to Fermín and Raphinha. And then Lewandowski’s goal was practically the same. In that false nine, attacking midfield position, he’s performing at a very high level. We’re talking about 21 goals and 16 assists.”
Yamal has played more centrally on occasion this season to good effect but has also thrilled in his usual position out wide on the right. The feeling is that he may indeed end up shifting position at some point in his career just not for quite yet.
