There’s a number of Syracuse basketball news items to catch up on, so we’ll do our best to keep you informed.
First up, Syracuse center Uche Izoje was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Izoje becomes the 9th Syracuse player to be earn All-American honors.
On the men’s side, freshman center Tiefeng Diawara has announced his intention to enter the portal. Diawara appeared
in four games for the Orange this season and now the 7-footer will look to find a new opportunity. He joins Aaron Womack as players who are planning to transfer out of Syracuse when the portal opens.
The player Diawara backed up this season, William Kyle, will be featured tonight in the State Farm Slam Dunk contest. Kyle is joined in the dunk contest by Nico Ashley, Central Connecticut, Bryson Dawkins, Youngstown St., Jaylin Henderson, Portland St., LaJae Jones, Florida St., Sam Phipps, UT-Tyler and Shaqir O’Neal, Sacramento St. (yes it’s Shaq’s son). The contest will be streamed on ESPN+ tonight at 7 with a replay on ESPN Sunday at Noon.
Kyle’s not the only Orange player to be participating in Final Four festivities this week as Syracus women’s guard Lelia Phelia will be on Team Miller in tomorrow’s Lilly Women’s All-Star Game from Phoenix. The game will be broadcast tomorrow at 2:00 on ESPN2.
Finally, Mike Waters of Syracuse.com reported that Syracuse will head back to Buffalo in October for an exhibition game. The Orange will face off against former Syracuse quarterback Greg Paulus’ Niagara squad in the Key Bank Center.
