Maybe Daniel Cormier is trying to drum up interest for his coaching spot against longtime rival, Jon Jones, in the upcoming third season for ALF Global Reality.
Or maybe Cormier really just wants to “kick
his ass.”
“DC” has been softly campaigning for a wrestling match against his fellow ex-UFC champion under the Real American Freestyle (RAF) banner
, where combatants must compete according to amateur wrestling rules.“I’m telling you, Real American Freestyle is going to see me and Jon Jones at some point, and I’m going to kick his ass like you would never believe,” Cormier told Ben Askren. “Because guess what, I still shoot. I still train wrestlers every single day.”
The 46 year-old Cormier had two chances to “kick his ass” under the UFC banner but came up short both times, first at UFC 182 and then again at UFC 214.
Jones, 38, was an NJCAA National Champion out of Iowa Central Community College but fell far short of Cormier’s wrestling achievements. “DC” was an NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State and went on to captain the 2008 Olympic team in Beijing.
Jones has yet to respond to Cormier’s RAF challenge.
