Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos praised Real Madrid for signing a ‘complete’ centre-back like Dean Huijsen on his podcast on Wednesday.
He said: “Real Madrid signed a very complete centre-back in Dean Huijsen. He’s strong in the air, he’s quick, and he’s good in building from the back.”
Kroos also spoke about the new-look Real Madrid, and their match against Real Oviedo last week. He mentioned that it is too early to predict, but these are good signs.
“They played a good game in Oviedo, but
it’s not very conclusive, it’s still too early for that,” said Kroos. “At the Club World Cup, we saw obvious changes in the team’s positioning on the pitch, but in order to predict, I’d like to wait for a few more big tests.”
Kroos talked about new manager Xabi Alonso as well as the key differences between his Real Madrid and that of the last few years — something that could help the club in the long run.
He said: “I think we’ll not only see changes of how we play because of a new coach, which was an important and correct decision, but also a new feeling in the team.
“It now feels like everyone can fight for their place, and that always makes the quality better. Before, it was mostly already clear who would play, when, and how much.
“But if you reset everything to zero and start a completely new competition for the spots, it helps the team a lot. In my opinion, you can already see this partly on the pitch.”
