Everyone seems to agree that independent wrestlers Nixon Newell (who most knew as WWE’s Tegan Nox) and Miranda Alize were booked for AEW Collision last Saturday, had issues with only getting three minutes
of TV time as they jobbed for regulars Anna Jay and Tay Melo, informed all involved of that those issues were deal-breakers, and left.
Beyond that, it gets messy.
After about a day of takes and debate about Newell and Alize’s decision to walkout of Collision — some of which threatened violence against the tag and real-life partners — they told their side of the story on a Twitch stream. And that was the end of it, right?
If this is your first time on the internet, or operating in 21st century society… you’ll be surprised to find out that that wasn’t the end. As most of us who spend too much time in the digital and/or pop culture world guessed, the story continued to unfold after Alize and Newell’s livestream.
First, there was a Fightful Select report that Bryan Danielson, who sits on AEW’s disciplinary committee and — while he doesn’t have an official executive position does have owner Tony Khan’s ear, spoke to Newell and Alize about the situation. Fightful’s source said Danielson was “disappointed” in the match change on Saturday (Maya World and Hyan replaced Newell and Alize), and that their decision didn’t go over well in the locker room.
As covered in our latest Rumor Roundup, Newell denied meeting with Bryan in another livestream, saying:
“Was just made aware of another article made by a certain someone, saying that a well-known wrestler has spoken to us about the match. Never officially met the wrestler. So, that’s a complete and utter lie.”
Sources of Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also suggested that the couple’s exit wouldn’t have been a huge deal if Alize hadn’t posted on social media calling attention to their absence right before Collision started on TNT last Saturday (Nov. 8)…
No comment that we can discern from Newell on that, but she did shoot down another Fightful item about negotiations with one independent promotion falling apart over certain “asks” from the Welsh wrestler. Another promoter claimed Newell walked out of a show after agreeing to a surprise appearance and spot, which created a bad situation for the company and her planned tag partner. Newell says she has “no idea” what those stories are about.
Alize didn’t specify, but didn’t hold back on the most recent stream when talking about the entire news-cycle around the couple:
“There’s a few rumors that are complete bullshot lies. So… yeah. If you’re not getting the source from us, you probably should not be talking about the situation.”
Probably not the end…
