Tom Bischof is not ready to say goodbye to Germany’s U-21s just yet.
Despite earning senior-team opportunities under Jürgen Klopp, the Bayern Munich midfielder has made it clear that he has his sights set on next summer’s U21 European Championship. And apparently, he is perfectly happy with the possibility of juggling both teams.
“I’m not done with the U-21s. I definitely want to be there in the Euros next summer. Even if Jürgen Klopp promotes me [to the senior team], I’m up for both,” said Bischof
(as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That is a pretty clear statement of intent from Bischof, who has already shown that he can handle the step up to the senior level.
For Bischof, the U-21 EUROs would also represent another opportunity to play a major role rather than simply being part of the squad. After making his senior Germany debut and gaining experience around some of the country’s biggest stars, he could bring that experience back to the U-21 setup.
And if Klopp decides Bischof has done enough to become a regular senior-team option? The midfielder is not exactly running away from that challenge either.
Bischof wants both.
Given his recent development, Germany may eventually have a decision to make about where he belongs — but for now, Bischof is making it clear that he wants every opportunity available to him.
